Church Insurance, March 1972

Stuart Billington

The Ecclesiastical Insurance Company had valued the Church at £156,000 (about £2.1M today) and the premium per annum would be £158.20 (about £2,100 today).
It was thought worth getting an estimate on how much it would cost to completely rebuild the church on the present site. The present premium was £23 per year.

(Extract from Parochial Church Council meeting 23rd March 1972)

The Ecclesiastical Insurance Company actually valued the Church building at £7.8M in 2016 – which is an interesting reflection on the rise in building costs.
