Pastoral Committee, April 1972

Stuart Billington

In June 1971 the Pastoral Committee was formed as a result of a directive from the PCC.
Its aim was threefold:
1) To examine the ‘Service set-up’ at St John’s, and to see if this was meeting the present needs of the Parish.
2) To examine the internal administration of the Parish to see if this should be adapted or altered in any way, and if the existing set-up was adequate and fulfilling the needs of the parishioners.
3) To see how we can best serve those who live in the Parish, with the ultimate goal of bringing them into a deeper relationship with God and His Church.

With regards to our Services, certain proposals were put forward which have now come into operation and seem to be working satisfactorily.
Discussion and plans also took place with regards to the children, especially in relationship with the 9:30am Service, and as a result a new system came into being.
The latest scheme which came into operation was the Tally Ho one, and although not coming up to our fullest expectations, it did have some measure of success.
The committee is responsible for looking ahead to see what can be done, and are always pleased to hear of any suggestions or ideas from parishioners.
