“I very often obtain only second-hand information regarding persons who are sick in the parish,” the Rev. H E Langhorne (Rector of St John’s, Lewes) told the annual church meeting on Tuesday.
“One woman stopped me and asked why I have not been to see her husband who was ill, and I told her I had only just heard about it.
I asked her how the doctor knew he was ill, and she replied, ‘Oh, we sent for him’ – but they seldom think of sending for the Rector!”
