Rector's Report: 1 The Avenue, April 1969

One of the most significant decisions for the PCC which it has ever had to make was purchasing of 1 The Avenue as the new St John’s Rectory.
This took up a considerable amount of time with extra meetings and a considerable amount of heart searching.
Eventually a decision was taken to purchase this property and with the consent of the Church Commissioners and the Diocesan Dilapidations Board this was done.
Due to the fact that 1 St John’s Hill (the previous Rectory) has not yet been sold we do not know exactly how much money has to be found to pay back the loans which were so generously made to the PCC , but in the next few months this matter should be finalised.
From a long standing Parochial view I believe that the step the PCC took was the right one that will be beneficial to the Parish as a whole.
