1 The Avenue, April 1972

Stuart Billington

The Rector said that a lot of heartsearching had gone into the buying of 1, The Avenue. The money had been borrowed and he had personally thought it would take three years to pay back, in fact it had only taken two years, and a lot of credit was due in paying back so quickly. He was very pleased, as he hated debts – the Christian Stewardship Committee had done remarkably well and he congratulated them.
The ‘drop’ in those who had originally subscribed had not happened at St John’s.
A few people were lost, mostly through death and those leaving the district but this had been made up with new people.
This is the Rector felt, was a great tribute to the Christian Stewardship Committee.
