First the old slates were removed. A limited number were in sufficiently good condition to be retained and re-used, but the majority had to be discarded.
Notice that there was no roofing felt under the slates!
The slate battens were then removed and breathable underfelt applied to the rafters, followed by new battens:
New Welsh slates were then fixed, together with the slates that were able to be re-used:
until all was complete!
