Digging graves, April 1915

Stuart Billington

Mr Luther Turner was re-appointed sexton and was authorised to charge one shilling per foot for digging graves.

(Extract from Vestry Meeting, 13th April 1915)

This was worth about £5.50 per foot in today’s money. Presumably that means per foot depth??
