The proposed resolution had been circulated to PCC members, and read as follows:
In the light of the falling number of priests to administer the Sacrament, this PCC feels that in certain cases and under certain circumstances, under the discretion of Bishop, male Church Readers should be ordained priests so that they can administer the Sacraments.
A PCC member asked for an amendment to delete the word ‘male’ but the Rector felt that this must stand and went on to explain his reasons.
The three Church Readers gave their views and several other members also.
The Rector proposed that the amended resolution be brought before the Deanery Synod.
All were in favour.
