Disappointing attendances, 1959

Stuart Billington

Finally, the Rector said there was room for much improvement in the number of parishioners attending St John’s Church – especially young people.
“Where were the young Communicants on Easter Sunday morning? ” he asked.
If people were going for a coach outing and had bought their tickets, they would get up early and go even if it was raining hard.
But with regard to early Communion, many were inclined to say,
“It is raining and it is nice and warm in bed,” and stay there.
He hoped that young people would make up their minds to go to Communion at least once a month.
