Clerical pressures 1939

Stuart Billington

The Rector said it was impossible to obtain clerical help at Easter, and he was deprived of an annual holiday for the same reason. Nobody could be found to take charge of the parish while he went away for a week or two. Consequently he had to be content with a week last year and absence on one Sunday in August, when a Church Army official took the services. He was afraid the same thing would you apply this year, and with the approval of the churchwardens he was making a similar arrangement.
