Church Choir, April 1970

Stuart Billington

At the end of September, Dennis Miller resigned his post, and vacancy was filled temporarily by Peter Jackson. Subsequently Donald Bishop was appointed Organist and Choirmaster and began his duties on 18th January 1970.
Early in December, eight new young members joined the choir and most of these are still with us. In February and they were joined by one new boy and one new girl. The choir register contains 29 names, but not all of these are regular attenders.
As I see it (writes Don Bishop), the choir has two functions (a) to lead the worship of the congregation and (b) to enrich the service at appointed places by their own efforts – in which field there is plenty of scope for development. English Church music has a glorious heritage and needs to be kept alive and offered to God in worship and praise.
