Choir wartime difficulties 1941

Stuart Billington

Mr Plummer said he would like to explain the reason for the small choir on Sunday mornings.
The elder boys had joined the Air Training Corps and, unfortunately, the corps had their training on Sunday mornings and they also had further training on choir practice nights. Therefore they had to rely mainly on the younger boys.
Similarly seven of the adult choristers had Civil Defence duties, five of them in the Home Guard, who had to train on Sunday mornings.
He thought it was due to the congregation that they should know the difficulties under which the choir were working.
