The Sunday 'Xtra, April 1972

Stuart Billington

1971 started with the Rector and his wife still standing in for the forthcoming new leader and they soldiered on until the Autumn when a ‘forthcoming event’ made it impossible to continue – however Mr and Mrs Skinner stepped into the breach.
The AGM in September was attended by about a dozen members, and has continued with about 15 to 20 members under our hard-working secretary Gwyn Wright.
Last year nearly £100 (about £1,500 today) was raised towards Christian Aid Week by members of the club, and plans are going ahead again this year for similar activities and the club would be very pleased of any support that the parishioners can give.
In October two members of the club attended the Diocesan St Richard’s Guild Conference at Eastbourne which was thoroughly enjoyed, and it is hoped that this year we shall be able to send a larger force.
A pre-Christmas project consisting of a Cake Stall and Coffee and Caramel evening raised some £25 (about £400 today) which proved very welcome to the Lewes House of Friends who, as a pure act of faith, decided to give a Christmas Day Dinner and Party to elderly people of the town.
