Sunday school, 1953

Stuart Billington

It was pointed out that the £217 total donations from collections and subscriptions included is £11 collected in farthings by the Sunday School children.

(Extract from Annual Parochial Church Meeting, 17th of April 1953)

A farthing was a quarter of an old penny, and there were 960  to the £ – that is about one tenth of today’s penny. Its equivalent in value terms would be about 3p today.
