The Parish Clerk retires, 1945

Stuart Billington

A family association with the office of parish clerk of St John sub Castro, which has lasted upwards of 60 years, is about to be severed.
At the annual vestry meeting held in the Church Room on Thursday evening last week, the Rector (the Rev H E Langhorne) announced that Miss H Sandles, who lives at 2 Church Row, had intimated that, owing to reasons of health, she wished to give up the position at the end of next September.
The Rector said that Miss Sandles had held the office for 30 years, succeeding her father who was parish clerk for 35 years.
Miss Sandles had rendered devoted service to the church, and all connected with the parish appreciated it very much. It would be difficult to fill her place.
