At St John’s Church on Good Friday evening Maunder’s ‘Olivet to Calvary’ was sung by the choir.
Mr Leslie S Plummer (choirmaster) was at the organ, and the rendering of the sacred music was one of the best efforts of this well-known choir. The choruses were given with good, solid tone, and when necessary, dramatic interpretation; the singing of the treble boys being particularly good.
The quartette ‘O Thou whose sweet compassion‘ was sung unaccompanied with pleasing effect by Masters Reginald Gearing and Henry Card and Messrs. S E Plummer and F A Turner.
The collection was for the Choir Fund.
