Parish Hall, 1961

Stuart Billington

Although bookings for St John’s Parish Hall, Lewes, have increased over the past year, the Parish Hall account, shown at St John’s APCM in the Parish Hall on Wednesday, showed a loss of £14 13s.

This, however, is a considerable improvement on the loss of £107 for the previous year.

The main reason for the loss is that the Hall has been decorated and improved in many ways during the year, and the expenses, particularly lighting and gas, are high.

The roof is in need of repair in the near future and estimates for re-tiling are around £400 (about £8,500 today), which is out of reach at the moment.

Proceeds from various functions held have amounted to £41 (about £900 today), which was spent on 30 new stacking chairs.
