Successes, but challenges ahead, 1967

Stuart Billington

The Rector of St John’s, Lewes (the Rev. M Loughton) and his wife, celebrated a wedding anniversary on Tuesday, the day on which the annual church meeting was held at St John’s Parish Hall, when the Rector was handed a cheque for £100 (about £1,700 today), the result of the Easter offering. The Rector, in expressing thanks, said the amount was greater than the year before.
The Rector, in the course of his annual report, referred to what had been done in the past and to what it was hoped to do in the future. They had been able to consolidate the previous work, he said, and there was a lot more to be done. The congregations had increased.
More people were becoming interested in St John’s Church, and there were many more who, it was hoped, would do the same.
