Rector's Report, April 1972

Stuart Billington

The Rector said that the Church was still in the process of being ‘put in order’, but there was not quite so much ‘dashing about’, thanks to Christian Stewardship.
The Census form had made him think of the question “What is my business?”, and he wondered if the Church had lost sight of what their business really is.
He thought it was to bring people to God, if this is done, then everything else will follow. The Church was too involved, and had lost sight of what God had put the Church in the world for.
We were to think about this, because barriers between good and evil were still increasing. There is a fight going on between Christ and the Devil, and the Rector asked – how could we bring people to God?
It was up to us to think about this, and how we could be more effective in the Parish.
St John’s was the friendliest Parish in Lewes, and there is a nucleus who worship regularly.
He commended these thoughts to our prayers.
