Lightning protection, 2017

Stuart Billington

There has been no lightning conductor on the St John sub Castro tower in the past.
In view of the trend towards increasingly severe weather events, and given that scaffold access to the tower elevations has been available as part of the tower masonry repair works, the Heritage Lottery Fund grant has enabled us to include the installation of a lightning protection system in the Repair Project.
Not only is the tower itself now protected, but also the whole of the rest of the church building.
