This website is about the history of St John sub Castro Church and the Parish it has served over the years – indeed over the centuries.

You may be interested to see the extent of the Parish in the map below. This excludes the wider parish of St John Without, which can be seen by clicking the link.
Parish boundaries have less significance now than they used to have – anyone can go to any church these days.

A small team of volunteers has created this site as part of a Heritage Lottery funded project, and we have been gradually adding content over the last couple of years or so. However this is very much work in progress, and there is a great deal more interesting material available for adding to the site – not to mention items of interest waiting to be discovered.
